Welcome to Birdbox Reksta, idyllically located on a small island just outside Florø. Here, you’ll be completely immersed in nature, with the unique opportunity to enjoy both sunrise and sunset right from your bed. From the cozy warmth of your Birdbox, you can experience the raw beauty of the Norwegian coastline — the wind, the weather, and the ever-changing sea.

The area is teeming with wildlife, including sheep, deer, and majestic sea eagles. There are also fantastic hiking opportunities right outside your door, whether you want to take a scenic mountain hike or go for a refreshing swim in the ocean.

Getting Here

You travel to the island by taking a ferry from Florø to Rognaldsvåg, which is the ferry stop for Reksta.

You can bring your car on the ferry, but this must be booked in advance — your hosts will gladly assist you with the booking if needed.

If you choose not to bring a car, you can park in Florø and be picked up by the hosts when you arrive at the ferry quay on the island. They will drive you to and from Reksta School, which is located about 300 meters from the Birdbox.
The cost of transportation on the island is included in the price of your stay.

For those who prefer to walk, the distance from the ferry to the Birdbox is about 40 minutes along a flat and scenic trail surrounded by beautiful coastal nature.

Reksta School Facilities

At Reksta School, you’ll have access to private parking, and from there it’s just a short 300-meter walk to reach the Birdbox. The final stretch includes a small uphill climb.

During your stay, the entire school building, including sanitary facilities, is at your disposal.
Here, you’ll find a private bathroom with toilet, shower, and washing facilities.
You’ll also have access to the school’s kitchen, which is fully equipped with a stove, cooking utensils, fridge, and more.

The school is a charming, historic building full of character and stories from its past, giving your stay an extra layer of uniqueness and local heritage.

The Birdbox Experience

Just a few meters from the Birdbox itself, there’s a private composting toilet for your convenience.

Inside the Birdbox, you’ll find essentials such as:

• A kettle

• A small fridge

• Plates, glasses, and cutlery

The Birdbox is equipped with a heater to keep you warm during the colder months and an AC unit to cool the space during summer.

Groceries and Local Produce

There is a small grocery store on the island near the ferry quay.
We recommend planning your food and drink shopping ahead of time to make your stay as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Birdbox Reksta collaborates with local producers such as Reksta Villsau, who provide organic, locally sourced products like cured meats from wild sheep and deer, as well as handmade goods such as sheepskin and seat warmers.

We also work with a local honey producer on the island.

All of these products are available for purchase at a small farm shop located in the basement of the schoolhouse, allowing you to experience authentic local flavors and craftsmanship during your stay
